A nice simple indie horror title. Love pla playing these type of games. Great job

Hello loved this good little game! (even if i got lost >.>) i liked the jumpscares pretty much all of them got me and the build up tp the monster also the fact that you didnt show it much was good since there wasnt much exposure making it even more scary! Heres the playthrough if ya wanna watch! it starts at 5:59

A good little game , it felt quite slender-ish when picking up notes, the atmosphere built up quite well and the asthetics of the home were good.

The game seemed more creepy than scary but it did that well , the only downside is when you are being looked at the movement speed is a little too slow which took some enjoyment out of the gameplay and there could of been a few more atmospheric sounds to create more intensity and keep you on edge.

A suggestion for the future if the game develops could be a little more into the "mysterious force" that dwells in the house, like is it part of the previous family that lived there or is it a murderer that died shortly after massacaring the people within the home before you came along.

Overall a fun experience and a soild game for a short project.

cool little game :)

This was pretty cool.

Nice Game!

I enjoyed it quite a bit ! An effective little chiller as it sends you around the house, with some choice moments. The complete lack of an ending, however, is a bit of a letdown after such a fun buildup, but its nice to play a horror game that doesn't rely on everything being pitch black 100% of the time and still delivers a few good spooks.

A simple, fun game. I enjoyed it and I think if anyone wants to relax with a bit of horror, this is the perfect game.

It did creep me out!

I liked it, My only real complaint was that I wish the ending was more fleshed out.. But for a student game, Not bad at all, Keep up the good work!

Pretty good!

Great job! I really like it! Made as School Project, this game is a brilliant experience!  I actually made a video playing this amazing game with hilarious reactions. I hope you enjoy. Keep the good work!

A short but fun game! I really enjoyed it! Very creppy idea!

Honestly, the experience may have been better for me if my computer wasn't so bad with the graphics. But overall, I think I had somewhat of a good time playing lol. I didn't expect there to be many/any scares but the creep factor was there and I could feel it. I liked it most in the dark :)

I had a blast playing this :D was fun and scary the ambient noises at the end, messed me up BAD I feel like if I had to run from something it would have been EVEN MORE scary, gods that ending had me scared, this definitely has potential! I don't know if you are gonna do anything else with it, but nonetheless was an amazing find!

Totally almost lost my cool and freaked out near the end! I wish there were more paranormal events the more you progressed through the game, but only slightly. For instance, things that usually only get caught through peripheral vision and very minimal spooks, just to add to the haunting experience. Had lots of fun playing, thank you for making this game!

The game looks very good, and does an extraordinary job of setting the mood. However, nothing scary really happens. It's a lot of build up without much pay off. Essentially, it just needs more substantial scares. Not really even jump-scares... anything really.

For a game 'TOTALLY' made by yourselves, this was extremely good. Had atmosphere and well placed sounds to move the game along. Ending was a bit... meh but overall this looked and played very nicely. A really well made game. Well done to all... :)

A great project but, I really wanted to see more horror aspects. Maybe a couple more intense jumpscares or, near jumpscares. There was a lot of back tracking that I thought had great potential for a moment. Don't get me wrong you did great!

a fabulous game, i cannot really believe it to be made by a student i gave a shot at the game hope you like the video

Hey I made a playthrough it’s the second game on of the video. My thoughts on the game. for a student project it looks really good, I have nothing but praise for the game.  encapsulated greatly on that creepy atmosphere, felt like there was something gonna pop up any second. The graphics and environment look clean as heck, very well detailed, tho I felt some areas felt empty, maybe that was just me.There was a distinct lag on the characters movement, but nothing to turn me off from the game. On the paranormal force monster thing, I felt it should’ve been more active and faster and of course also increase the main characters speed, I feel it would make the game a little challenging. But nonetheless keep up the great work guys/gals!

Muy buena ambientación pero creo que nos hemos quedado atrapados por el monstruo de la casa???

This game was pretty spooky! Good job!

This game is a perfect example of how to pull of atmosphere and suspense but deliver an experience that feels imcomplete. When I first saw this game and started it up, I had high hopes for it and while the atmosphere in the game was well organised, there wasn't much else to it. There was really nothing scary or horrific about the game to call it a horror game. I feel like many indie developers fall for this by either making a horror game with tons of jumpscares that get old fast or make an atmospheric game that really has no conclusion. This game is the latter. The atmosphere is there but apart from that, there is nothing else. Nothing to really scare the player or to make them feel more on edge while playing and the only reason players feel scared is more due to the phycology of how the game is marketed rather than the gameplay itself.

With that being said, it does have potential to become something more than just an atmospheric game and there are even some examples of games that do this perfectly. Madison being one game in particular that creates perfect suspense for the player while delovering a good payoff in the end game. I feel like this game was to follow a similar pattern but fell short of that.

I do go more into detail about this game in my video so I hope you give it a watch.

This is a perfect example of how to build suspense to a good payoff.  I had a little trouble with really low mouse sensitivity but otherwise this was a good experience.

I started playing this at 2:19  ... genuinely a very good game with loads of potential

Gave it a go...

Sorry I was a bit late with this as I had tech issues last week but I enjoyed it and loved the atomsphere in the game!

pretty cool. Nice atmosphere with sounds and environment. Great job on the assets and bringing it together into a nice little creepy game!

I liked the effects (audio visual and controls) as you approach the end, gave an out of control feeling at just the right time.

Hey there, so I recently played through Something in the Shadows and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on it here. With these mini reviews I usually go over some things I liked, some things I didn’t and any bugs I might have found.

I’ll start with the positives. The game looks good and has a fairly high degree of ambiance to it, there are some fairly tense moments to be had while wandering around the house. The sound adds to this as well, having some well-timed moments where the audio rises at the peak of a scare. All of this combined creates some pretty creepy moments that work very well in a horror game. The lack of overdone ‘jump-scares’ is also a nice touch. It’s also impressive that the assets were made by the devs and they definitely deserve recognition for that, as it’s easy to just rip the same old royalty free assets that other indie game devs on here have been notorious for.

Now I’ll go over some gripes I had with the game. It’s another collectathon, while this might not be an issue to some, it is to me, it’s a trope that has been beaten to death, and I feel it just doesn’t do the games environments and excellent ambiance justice. There seems to be a somewhat lack of a story, while it can be argued that it’s told through the environment and the notes, even then there really isn’t much meat there.

I discovered one bug while doing my second run through, so it’s not captured on the video linked above, but if the player doesn’t interact with the door first and instead gets the key first, the game seems to go through the script of “the door is locked, where’s the key?” when the player already has the key and is trying to escape. It’s not a major bug, but it does sort of suck you out of the moment.

At the end of the day I found this to be fairly average; however, I did find some enjoyment in it. The game looks good, sounds good and feels good for a horror game, but it’s wasted on an overdone game-play concept. I know this was a student project, and when that’s taken into consideration it’s quite an impressive feat, especially when you factor in that many of the assets are made by the devs themselves, but that doesn’t stop me from being critical about a game, especially one that is now (at the time of writing) in the number one position on itch.

Cheers and best wishes,

Killjoy

Thanks for the game, decided to make a video on it as part of my 3 random horror games :)

This game has a nice atmosphere to it. There were some creepy moments and Im glad it wasn't just littered with jumspcares.
